Skills coached throughout this high-performance hockey training program are rarely taught during general hockey practices.  Players who place an emphasis on their personal skill development, in addition to team practices, will gain an edge in comparison to a high percentage of players progressing through the house or travel leagues.

Class and Private Lesson Policy

To help accommodate all skaters and maximize our class and lesson availability, a 24-hour policy is in place for all lesson and class cancellation/class credit requests.

Lessons cancelled with less than 24-hour notice will receive a full charge.

Jimmy Koszuta, Former AAA Hockey Player

Jimmy has played hockey for multiple AAA teams where he qualified for New York State Championships (NYSAHA).  Having experience as a Team USA international figure skating competitor alongside his hockey career greatly contributed to elevating his game to the next level.  As a defenseman, his ability to skate backward and transition fluently and effortlessly was unmatched.  Due to this, he was able to play alongside higher age groups with ease.  With the edgework and balance achieved in figure skating, he would never have reached the same level of success on his teams.  Jimmy takes his experience and formulates it into the S4S High Performance Hockey Training program as he passes his knowledge and skills onto the next generation of players.

Hockey 1 focuses on the foundational basics of skating.  Creating a strong base for skaters is paramount for their success as they progress through the levels.  Correct technique is essential from the first steps on the ice.

Skill Focus:
Balance
Knee Bend
Multi-Directional Movements
Speed Variances
Technique

Hockey 2 tests the basics learned in Hockey 1 as elements begin to be isolated with the focus on strong technique, agility, and coordination.  Athletes will begin to understand the use of edges and the basic principles of edgework in the generation of power.  Skaters will continue to build their foundation of new skills to be refined in future levels.

Skill Focus:
Power Gain
Agility
Body Alignment
Edge Control
Skill Isolations
Stabilization

In Hockey 3, the focus begins to narrow as athletes learn more difficult skills that are imperative for players to execute at more advanced levels.  Body awareness and coordination are heavily examined in this level to prepare each player with basic skills used in game experiences.  The addition of timed sprints will enhance each athlete's speed, power, and technique.

Skill Focus:
Edge Control
Multi-Directional Movements
Turn Execution
Power Burst
Rhythm
Endurance

The main focus of Hockey 4 is speed and agility.  Footwork mastered in Hockey 1-3 is executed at much greater speeds while maintaining an elevated quality of skating and technique.  More difficult backward skating skills make a significant appearance at this stage.  Players enhance their understanding of how to use their developed skill sets in relevant practice and game experiences.

Skill Focus:
Explosiveness
Edge Pressure
Body Control
Edge Grip
Quickness
Transitional Agility

The backward skating skills taught in Hockey 5 will become more intense with a focus on power and efficiency, holding each player to a higher standard of quality beyond general skill comprehension.  This level will continue to focus heavily on balance-orientated skills that will amplify basic edgework.  Mastery of Hockey 5 skills is pivotal to each player's success in the competitive hockey world.

Skill Focus:
Drill Intensity
Power Gain
Turn Mastery
Rotational Control
Body Lean
Endurance

Every aspect of training begins to seamlessly blend together for the athletes in Hockey 6.  The majority of skill sets have been taught at this point and the focus shifts to mastery and dynamic agility.  Advanced level transitional steps will be drilled providing the athlete with more fluidity in their skating.  Mastery of Hockey 6 stresses how crucial it is for each athlete to be creative and unpredictable on the ice without displaying caution or foreshadowing of moves.

Skill Focus:
Technique Mastery
Quickness
Edge Utilization
Edge Pressure
Seamless Transitions
Speed/Power
Endurance

The emphasis of Hockey 7 is all about consistency and mastery of all skills.  Endurance will be pushed while maintaining technique and masterful flow across the ice with minimal indications of fatigue.  Required time sprints will confirm the implementation of correct technique necessary to improve stride effectiveness.  The execution of all skills will be strictly evaluated for balance, power, speed, quickness, and maximum edge utilization.  Each athlete will be trained to be unstoppable against opponents of all strengths.

Skill Focus:
Body Mechanics
Quickness/Agility
Acceleration
Seamless Transitions
Power Gain & Retention
Masterful Skill Sets
Endurance
